ABOUT THE MASTERCLASS

THIS MASTERCLASS IS FOCUSED ON THE MUSIC OF JAZZ COMPOSER AND PIANIST

THELONIOUS MONK

WHAT'S IT ABOUT ?

 

  • This is a Masterclass for young musicians with at least a 1-2 years experience on a musical instrument. It is for young musicians that play, piano, guitar, acoustic bass, drums, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, flute and clarinet.

 

  • Participants will learn about the Jazz Music art form as developed by Composer / Pianist Thelonious Monk while studying and playing his music.

 

  • The young musicians will learn about Jazz Music from New York Based Composer, Pianist and Educator Ashby Anderson.

 

  • Participants will learn how to use music elements to improvise and express their personality through music without written sheet music. 

 

  • Through music scores and lead sheets musicians will learn the importance of music theory and site reading skills.

 

  • Through historical footage, the life, character, history and accomplishments of Thelonious Monk  will be past on to the next generation of young musicians.

ASHBY ANDERSON

New York Based Composer, Pianist, Educator and Entrepreneur Ashby Anderson was born  and raised in Richmond Virginia's Northside neighborhood.
