AFRIKAN ARKESTRA
Commissioned by Music USA and The Jazz Composer's Alliance Inc. UNDERTONES was composed as an aural memorial for the African Burial Grounds In Richmond Virginia. The 4 movement, 60 minute work features the 22 piece Afrikan Arkestra comprised of 2 Double Basses, 5 African Percussionists, Griot Sekou Shabaka, Piano, Drums, Trumpet Section, Trombone Section and Saxophone Section.

The concept of creating an orchestral work for the African Burial Grounds was developed by composer Ashby Anderson. It was the 1st and largest musical performance of it's kind on the sacred land which made history on
April 3, 2015 on the 150 year end to slavery in America
